Box Score MIAMI SHORES, Fla. -- Battling against severe weather storms, the Barry University baseball team managed to squeeze in six innings to upend the William Paterson Pioneers 7-0 earlier tonight at Feinbloom Field.
Alex Meneses started off the first-inning scoring rally with a leadoff single, while
Joey Perez followed up with his first home run of the season to give the Bucs a 2-0 lead. The Bucs tapped out five hits and scored five in the first inning for an early 5-0 lead.
The Bucs extended their lead by one in the fourth on a Perez RBI single. Finally, heading into the bottom half of the sixth, freshman
Nick Corbeil powered a solo shot to leftcenter just before the game-ending storm pushed through and the game was called.
Billy Zoffinger went three-for-three and scored once to lead the Bucs, while Perez finished two-for-three with a home run and three RBI.
Carlos de la Osa and Meneses added two hits apiece.
Robert Penna (3-1) posted his third win of the season and hurled the six-inning shutout. He allowed no runs, five hits, walked one, and struck out three. Mike Brogan (0-1) suffered the loss for the Pioneers (2-2)giving up seven runs (six earned) on 12 hits and walked two.
The Buccaneers improved to 12-15 overall and will return to action on Friday, Mar. 21 hosting Lynn at Feinbloom Field for the Sunshine State Conference opener.
