Box Score 2 MIAMI SHORES – The Barry University baseball team split a afternoon double-header with the Lions of Malloy College dropping game one 12-6 before slipping past the Lions in game two 11-8.
In game one, the Bucs (11-15) took a 6-0 lead into the top of the ninth inning with timely hitting and solid pitching, however, Molloy (1-1) rallied scoring 11 run's in the final frame to take a 12-6 lead and pull out the come from behind victory.
Buccaneer starter Jon Sandola was superb pitching eight complete innings giving up just one run while striking out 8 and walking one, before turning the game over to the Bucs bullpen in the ninth. Reliever
Eric Flynn, who was one of five Buccaneer pitchers to take the mound in the ninth, picked up the loss dropping his record to 0-1 on the season.
Offensively, the Bucs were led by
Ricky Sanchez and
Cesar Aranguren who each hit homeruns. Aranguren's solo shot came in the second inning and then Sanchez followed his lead belting a three run shot over the leftfield wall in the sixth.
In the nightcap, the Bucs struck first leading 7-2 after two innings, however, the Lions again rallied scoring six in the top of the third to take a 8-7 lead. That is the way it stood until the Bucs tied it up in the sixth and then added three more in the bottom of the eight to seal the victory.
The Bucs were led by
Carlos de la Osa who turned in a 3 for 4, 3 RBI performance, while Aranguren,
Alex Meneses,
Joey Perez and
Billy Zoffinger each added two hits apiece.
Buccaneer pitcher
Chris Casale picked up his first win of the season pitching six and a third innings in relief giving up just one hit, while striking out four.
The Bucs return to action on Monday evening as they host William Paterson at 6:00 pm.
