Box Score 2 MIAMI SHORES, Fla. -- The Barry University softball team split a pair of games earlier today trouncing the Concordia Cavaliers 13-1, then later fell to Armstrong Atlantic 2-1 in the nightcap.
In the first game, the Buccaneers scored nine runs in the first innings and added four more in the second, while tapping out 10 hits en route to a 13-1 trouncing of the Cavaliers (1-6).
Erin Cormier (5-1) gave up one run and struck out five to earned the win for the Bucs. Missy Smith (1-3) took the loss and gave up nine runs (two earned) on five Buccaneers hits.
In the nightcap, the Armstrong Atlantic State Pirates (6-0) to an early 1-0 lead in the fourth on a Jenny Alfirov RBI double, but the Bucs' Amanda Moore tied the game with an RBI double of her own to tie the game at one apiece in the top of the fifth. In the bottom half of the inning the Pirates once again took the lead on a costly Buccaneer error and slipped by with the 2-1 win over the Bucs.
Geralyn Elam (10-1) suffered her first loss of the season giving up two runs (one earned) and struck out 10. Katya Econina (4-0) earned the win allowing only two Buc hits and struck five.
The Bucs fell to 15-3, but will look to improve their record in the final day of the Buccaneer Classic on Sunday, Mar 2. facing off with North Florida at 12 noon, followed by Eckerd at 4 pm and LeMoyne at 6 pm.
