Box Score MIAMI SHORES – The Barry University baseball team out-slugged the Flyers of Lewis University 20-16 Friday night at Feinbloom Field.
The Flyers jumped out to an early lead in the first scoring two runs off of Bucs starter
Alex Gonzalez, however, the Bucs (7-9, 0-0 SSC) rallied in the bottom of the inning, scoring eight runs of their own to take an early 8-2 lead. Lewis (0-4) then scored 13 more runs over the next four innings to take a 15-8 lead but the Bucs offense proved to be too much for Lewis' pitching staff as they scored 12 unanswered runs over the final four innings to hold on for the 20-16 win.
For the game, the Buccaneers recorded a total of 21 hits with seven different players posting multiple hit games.
Keith Barton led the way for the Bucs, going 4 for 6 with two RBI's and two run's scored, while
Ricky Sanchez,
Alex Meneses and
Billy Zoffinger added three hits apiece. Sanchez was the Bucs leading RBI man with four, while Meneses and Zoffinger drove home three each.
On the mound, the Bucs got a strong performance out of reliever
Gerry Guarch, who threw four complete, giving up just two hits and one run to earn his first victory of the season.
The Bucs return to action Saturday afternoon as they again take on Lewis University starting at 1:00 pm before hosting West Chester at 6:00 pm in a split-doubleheader.
