Box Score MIAMI SHORES, Fla. -- In a five-hour dual, the Barry University women's tennis team came up short against the Lynn Fighting Knights 5-4 earlier today in a Sunshine State Conference match-up at the Buccaneer Tennis Complex.

Without two-time doubles All-American Maria Lopez, the Buccaneers struggled in the top two doubles flights 8-5 and 9-7. However, Gizella Turbok and Valeria Papandrea picked up the Bucs only doubles win at the #3 over Lynn's Maria Palacios and Masha Bajramovic 8-6. Down 6-3, Turbok and Papandrea fought back for the come from behind victory.

In the singles flights, Barry's #1 Victoria Courmes battled her way to a three set victory over Lynn's Maria Barbier winning 7-5, 1-6, 6-3. Corneila Grunes hit the showers early after trouncing Kristina Triska 6-0, 6-2 at the #2 singles to keep her unbeaten streak alive.

Gizella Turbok suffered her first loss this season in singles at the #3 spot to Lynn's Monica Mastalirova 6-4, 7-5. Freshman Greta Trotman defeated Bucke Yavuz at the #4 with relative ease 6-2, 6-4 to give the Bucs a 4-3 advantage heading into the final stretch. Papandrea battled out a three set match with Lynn's Masha Bajramovic winning the first set 6-4, but fell in the final two 6-2, 7-5.

Tied four all, Carole Steinhauser held the outcome in her hands against Lynn's Maria Palacios. Sparked with fury, Steinhauser battled her way to a three-set match, but fell ended up falling 6-2, 6-7, 7-5.

The Buccaneers fell to 7-1 overall and 1-1 in the SSC, while Lynn improved to 4-0 and 3-0 in conference play. The Bucs return to the clay on Sat. Mar 1 hosting SSC foe Rollins at 10 am.
