Box Score 2 ST. PETERSBURG, Fla.--The Barry Buccaneers and Eckerd Tritons split a baseball doubleheader at Turley Field Sunday afternoon. The Tritons won game one 2-1 and the Bucs bounced back to take the nightcap 5-4.
Joey Perez went 3-for-3 and
Alex Meneses added two hits and two runs to lead the Bucs (6-9) to the game two win.
Robert Penna (2-0) kept his record perfect with six strong innings. He allowed seven hits and three runs (two earned), struck out two and did not walk a batter.
Jon Adams got the last two outs to record his first save.
Eric Canestrari (2-1) took the loss for the Tritons (8-11). He worked five innings, allowing seven hits and two walks leading to five earned runs and did not record a strikeout.
In the opening game, Josh Beauregard spoiled a complete game performance by Barry's Jon Sandola (1-1) when he singled in pinch runner Tony Ferraz with the winning run in the bottom of the seventh inning.
Sandola went the distance, allowing only four hits and two walks, while striking out six. Only one of his two runs were earned.
Sam Reece (2-0) worked the last two innings for Eckerd to pick up the win. He allowed one hit and one walk, but did not strikeout anyone.
Jason Wishin started for the Tritons, going five innings and allowing one earned run on five hits and a walk, while striking out four.
Barry returns home after their five-game road trip, to take on Lewis University at 6:00 pm on Friday, Feb. 28. The Tritons play an exhibition game against the Tampa Bay Devil Rays on Friday, Feb. 28 at 1:00 pm at Al Lang Stadium.
