Box Score MIAMI SHORES – The Barry University men's basketball team rebounded from an earlier season loss to Tampa cruising by the Spartans 63-56 at the Health & Sports Center.
In the first half, the Bucs (14-6, 4-4 SSC) came out strong scoring the first seven points, but the Spartans responded with a 9-0 run to take the lead 9-7 with 13:17 to play in the first half. The Bucs then went on a 10-0 run to take a 20-13 lead at the 6:26 mark before heading into intermission leading 29-22.
The Bucs again came out strong in the second half extending their lead to 12 with just 8:34 left in the game. However, the Spartans (13-7, 4-4 SSC) would not go quietly into the night as they rallied to within six points with less than a minute to play. But the Bucs nailed 4-of-6 from the line with just 40 seconds left and eventually held on for the 63-56 win.
The Bucs were led Luis Vazquez-Bello who poured in 19 points and pulled down six rebounds while Nick Perez followed with 15 points and five rebounds. Ronald Lewis finished with 11 and a career high three blocks.
The University of Tampa's Achille Ngounou led the Spartans with 15 points.
The Bucs return to the road on Wednesday, Feb. 5, visiting the Eckerd Tritons for an SSC match-up. Game time is set for 7:30.
