Men's Basketball Slips Up in Lakeland

Box Score LAKELAND, Fla.--The Barry University Buccaneers were defeated 57-50 by the Moccasins of Florida Southern in an SSC men's basketball game Wednesday night at the Jenkins Field House.

The Buccaneers (12-5, 2-3 SSC) came out strong in the first half leading 14-6 at the 12:07 mark. However, the Mocs (17-1, 4-1 SSC) responded with a 10-2 run to tie the score at 16-16 with 7:03 to play in the first half. The Bucs eventually regained the lead and went into the half up 23-21.

In the second half, the Mocs came back to take a 35-29 lead at the 15:14 mark and held on the rest of the way seeing their lead extend to 9 at 48-39 with 5:55 to play. The Bucs fought back and managed to get to within five, but it was not enough as Florida Southern held on for the 57-50 win.

The Bucs were led by Luis Vasquez-Bello who had 18 points while Nick Perez followed with 12.

Florida Southern was led by Matt Story who had 14 points.

The Bucs return to action at the Health & Sports Center Saturday afternoon as they host Rollins College at 4:00 pm.
