Box Score TAMPA, Fla. -- The Barry University men's basketball team (11-3, 1-1 SSC) was topped by the Tampa Spartans (10-4, 1-1 SSC) 44-39 earlier today at the Martinez Center.
The Buccaneers fell behind early in the first half 11-9 at the 7:50 mark. However, the Bucs notorious defense held the Spartans to only three more points the rest of the half, while the offense went on a 20-3 run to lead 29-14 at halftime.
In the second half, freshman Marty Harrington sparked an 18-2 run with a three-pointer to allow the Spartans to regain the lead 32-31 with 10:19 remaining, a lead they never relinquished. The Spartans went on to down the Bucs 44-39.
The Buccaneers were paced by Luis Vazquez-Bello with a team-high 15 points, while
Nick Ellingsworth-Perez chipped in 10 points and nine rebounds.
Harrington led the Spartans with 18 points, while teammated Achille Ngounou added 10 and pulled down 13 rebounds.
The Buccaneers will return to the Health & Sports Center hosting Eckerd on Jan. 15 at 5:30 pm.
