Box Score MIAMI SHORES, Fla. -- Despite a late ninth inning rally, the Barry University baseball team fell to the Florida Southern Moccasins 9-3 earlier tonight in Sunshine State Conference play at Feinbloom Field.

Picking up where they had left off last weekend, the Bucs immediately jumped out of the starting gate with a leadoff double by Rey Fuentes. He later scored on a Joey Apotheker RBI single giving the Bucs a 1-0 lead. Adam Toro scored later in the inning on a Luis Boullon RBI single that gave the Bucs a 2-0 lead going into the second inning.

The Mocs rallied back scoring two in the second, four in the third, one in the fourth, and added two more in the sixth to take a 9-2 lead over the Bucs. The Bucs tried to mount a late ninth inning rally scoring once, but the damage had already been done as the Mocs finished off the Bucs 9-3 in nine innings.

John C. Barnett (7-4) earned the win for the Mocs hurling seven innings and giving up two runs on five Buccaneers hits and struck out seven. Fernando Tapia (7-6) took the loss for the Bucs after giving up nine runs on eleven hits, but matched his season high seven strikeouts.

Catcher, Luis Boullon, led the Bucs at the plate going three-for-four with an RBI. Florida Southern's Jeff Lucas, Justin Hancock, Dan Chamberlain, Logan Roberts, and Everett Jones tapped out two hits a piece, while Jones and Lucas led the Mocs with two RBI each.

The Bucs fell to 23-24 overall and 6-13 in the SSC, while the Mocs improved to 36-12 and 12-7 in the SSC. Both team will resume action on Saturday, May 4 at 1 pm for the final two games of the series. It also marks the last two games of the 2002 campaign for the Buccaneers.
