Softball Ends Season In Nationals

Box Score SALEM, Va.--The Barry Buccaneers fell 3-1 to the Bloomsburg Huskies in an elimination game in the NCAA Division II National Championship at the James L. Moyer Sports Complex in Salem, Va.

The Buccaneers (44-15) struck first in the second inning. Lindsey Rhodes led off with a single and scored on a sacrifice fly caught by Bloomsburg's Allison Necchi in foul territory.

The Huskies (44-7) tied the game in the third. With a runner at first and two outs, Amanda Breon struck out but reached first when the pitch eluded catcher Carrie Roberts for a passed ball. Liza Pepper followed with an RBI single.

Bloomsburg scored the winning runs in the sixth inning aided by a pair of errors by the Buccaneers. Pepper again was the hero with a two-run single.

Geralyn Elam (32-6) took the loss despite not allowing an earned run. She gave up six hits and two walks with 12 strike outs. She closed her season with 406 strike outs. She ranks fifth all time in NCAA Division II, one strike out ahead of Karissa Hoehn (1999) of St. Cloud State.

Kerri Cooper (18-3) earned the win, going the distance and allowing six hits and one walk while striking out two.

The Huskie advance to play Grand Valley State tomorrow at a time to be determined.
