Double Header Sweep For Softball Over Tigers

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The Barry softball team ended the month of March with a midweek double header sweep of the Edward Waters Tigers on Tuesday afternoon.

SUMMARY (GAME ONE):

  • T1 – Mya Tucker got the party going early with an eight pitch at bat that landed over the center field fence for a lead-off home run. | Barry 1, EWU 0
  • T2 – The bases were loaded quickly with Kiera Strub drawing a walk, Vivian Billard doubling to right center, and Maggie Boyd getting hit by a pitch. Shelby Prevatte was hit by a pitch and brought in Strub. Cameron Marchese then delivered a sacrifice fly that scored two. Tucker later came around to score on a single and three stolen bases. | Barry 4, EWU 0
  • B4 – Edward Waters was able to get on the board in the bottom of the fourth. An error scored the first run and extended the inning. The Tigers scored three straight runs and cut their deficit to two. | Barry 5, EWU 3
  • T5 – Barry answered with a run in the following frame. A two-out rally started with Chandler Barry getting hit by a pitch. Strub then delivered an RBI-single to center to bring her in. | Barry 6, EWU 3
  • T6 – The breakout inning came in the top of the six when the Bucs put up six. The first seven batters reached, six via a walk, as four runs scored in that process. Billard then came up and delivered the big hit with a double to left field that cleared the bases. | Barry 13, EWU 3
  • B6 – With the run rule in effect, the Tigers were fighting to bring it back within eight but were only able to get one ending the game early. | Barry 13, EWU 4

NOTEWORTHY (GAME ONE):

  • It was the eighth time the offense has drawn more the five walks in a game this season. The second at nine walks.
  • Tucker and Billard combined for five of the six hits.
  • Samantha Rosenberger collected her second win of the season going the distance.
  • Rosenberger had four strikeouts, allowed one walk, and had six hits in the six innings of work.

SUMMARY (GAME TWO):

  • T1 – The offense continued to stay hot putting up a four spot in the first inning. Tucker switched up the power and brought in the speed with a lead off bunt and stole second to put herself in scoring position. A single from Serah Shafer brought home Tucker. A two out rally put up the next three runs as the freshmen Billard delivered again with an RBI-double. | Barry 4, EWU 0
  • T5 – After a few quite innings, the Bucs were able to put up another crooked number with two in the fifth. An error extended the inning and helped Barry put runners in scoring position. Prevatte drilled a double to left field that brought home both runners. | Barry 6, EWU 0
  • T6 – The short game came into effect and helped scratch for another run. Shafer led off with a bunt and then stole second. Two sacrifice bunts after scored her home. | Barry 7, EWU 0
  • B6 – The Tigers got their first run of the game with a lead off singled coming around to advance on a base hit to center. | Barry 7, EWU 1
  • B7 – In the final inning, Edward Waters put up a run but ended the game in the same process on a first and third base running situation that got the runner on first picked off. | Barry 7, EWU 2

NOTEWORTHY (GAME TWO):

  • Billard got it done on both ended picking up her fifth win in the circle and going 2-for-3 at the plate.
  • On the pitching end, she threw a complete game with a career high six strikeouts.
  • Tucker recorded her 100th career hit with the lead-off bunt single in her first at-bat.
  • Shafer and Tucker both had multi-hit games.

ON THE HORIZON:

Barry returns home and into league play with a three game stint against Lynn, starting Thursday, April 2.
