Box Score KANSAS CITY, Mo.--The Barry Buccaneers were sunk 5-1 by the Armstrong Atlantic State Pirates in the semifinals of the NCAA Division II Tennis Championships in Kansas City, Mo., on Saturday.
The Bucs, who had a school-record 25 match winning streak snapped, will play Lynn University in the third-place match on Sunday.
The Pirates jumped out to a 2-1 lead after doubles, winning at the top two flights. Ewa Kleczek and Valeria Papandrea collected the Bucs' only point with an 8-6 win at number three.
Though the Bucs lost three singles and the match ended with three matches unfinished, the contest was closer than the 5-1 score indicates. Barry led at two of the three remaining matches and the third was tied at one set apiece.
"The weather here has definitely played a factor," Barry head coach Dr.
George Samuel said. "I don't know that it would have been different outside, but these faster indoor courts were definitely an advantage for those guys."
The Bucs fall to 25-4, while Armstrong improves to 26-3 and advances to the national championship match on Monday against BYU-Hawai'i.
