Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 ST. LEO, Fla.--In a matchup of Sunshine State Conference leaders, the Barry Buccaneers swept a softball doubleheader 7-0 and 4-0 from the Saint Leo Lions at University Field Saturday afternoon.

In game one, first baseman Nora Conroy smacked a two-out grand slam in the fifth inning to break open a tight game for the Bucs. An error by Lion shortstop Daffney Green opened the door for Barry.

In the second game, it was Green and Conroy again combining for Barry's runs. With two outs, Green dropped a pop up on the infield and two batters later with the bases loaded, Conroy rifled a single into left field to bring in Hillary Hamilton with the go ahead run. Another error by left fielder Kristin Alvarez allowed both Jenny Miranda and Sarah White to score.

Geralyn Elam (26-4) earned both wins for the Bucs with a pair of complete-game shutouts. In game one, she allowed three hits, did not walk a batter and struck out 12. In game two, it was almost identical as she allowed three more hits, walking one, and struck out 12 more. The two wins give Elam the Barry school record for wins in a season passing Katie Clift (1993) and Lindsay Anderson (1998). The 24 strikeouts brings her school-record season total to 318.

Heather Gamlin (29-12) took both losses for the Lions, despite giving up only two earned runs in two complete games. She allowed seven runs, two earned, on eight hits with one walk and eight strikeouts in game one. In game two, she surrendered only four hits and two walks, allowing four unearned runs, while striking out eight.

The teams came into the doubleheader tied for first place in the conference and the Buccaneers (37-13, 19-7 SSC) clinched at least a share of the league title with the sweep. They still have two games at Florida Southern left to play and lead the Lions by two games. Saint Leo dropped to 39-15, 17-9 in the SSC. The Lions close out the season with Lynn on Sunday.
