Box Score 2 MIAMI SHORES, Fla.--The fifth-ranked Barry Buccaneers split a softball doubleheader with the St. Thomas Bobcats at Buccaneer Field on Wednesday, winning the first game 9-1 in six innings and dropping the nigthcap 4-3 in eight innings.
Game one was a tight affair until the Bucs broke it open with an eight-run sixth inning. Sarah White started the inning by reaching on an error by shortstop Debbie Collins and capped off the frame with a two-run homer to end the game. KD Smith and Hillary Hamilton each had three hits and Lindsey Rhodes drove in three runs.
Geralyn Elam (24-4) earned the win, with six innings of two-hit ball, allowing one earned run and striking out eight. Jessica Millar (17-10) took the loss for the Bobcats, allowing seven runs, two earned, on 10 hits and three walks while striking out two in 5.2 innings. Lillith Reller came on in the sixth inning and surrendered White homer without recording an out.
In game two, Barry led 3-1 on another two-run homer by White, but gave up two unearned run in the fifth inning to tie the game. Debbie Collins then poked a leadoff homer in the eighth off Elam for the win.
Elam pitched two innings in relief of Erin Cormier, allowing two hits and one run, while recording four strikeouts. Reller came back to go the distance in the second game, allowing 12 hits and three earned runs, but did not walk a batter and struck out one.
The Buccaneers (35-13) close out their regular season on the road this weekend at Saint Leo on Saturday in a battle of teams tied for the conference lead, and at Florida Southern on Sunday. St Thomas is now 32-18.
