Box Score 2 MIAMI SHORES, Fla.--The Barry Buccaneers muzzled the Florida Tech Panthers in a Sunshine State Conference softball doubleheader, winning game one 9-1 in five innings and taking the nightcap 2-1.
The Bucs exploded offensively in the first game, scoring nine runs in the first three innings, capped by a six-run third inning. Nora Conroy ripped a two-run homer to get the inning started and Lindsey Rhodes capped it with a three-run blast.
Geralyn Elam (23-3) went the distance in both games for the Bucs. She tossed 12 innings allowing eight hits, four walks and a pair of unearned runs, while striking out 17.
Jenni Triolo (9-5) took the loss in the first game, allowing all nine runs, five earned, on 11 hits and two walks.
In game two, the Panthers jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the first inning as Tamara Baker scored on a two-out single by Stacy Warren.
But the Bucs got even in the bottom of the second. Conroy singled, stole second and went to third on a wild pitch. Heather Hodges knocked her home with a base hit.
The game stayed tied til the bottom of the seventh inning despite numerous opportunities for both teams. Barry loaded the bases with one out and Kristina Socarras bounced a single up the middle to drive in Jenny Miranda.
Kristen Lane (1-1) took the loss for FIT, giving up two runs, one earned, in 6.1 innings. She allowed six hits and nine walks and struck out three.
The Buccaneers improve to 34-12, 17-7 in the SSC. The Panthers fall to 26-26, 9-17 in the league. Barry will host St. Thomas on Wednesday, April 24 as the Bucs will celebrate "Senior Day."
