Softball Splits With Delta State

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 MONTICELLO, Ark. -- The Barry University softball team split a double-header with the Delta State Lady Statesmen taking the first game 1-0, and falling in the nightcap 2-1 in extra innings. The games were played at host Arkansas-Monticello earlier today.

In the first game, the Buccaneers scored their only run in the top of the sixth on a two-out RBI single by K.D. Smith that lifted the Bucs to the 1-0 victory.

Geralyn Elam (7-1) hurled 7.0 innings giving up no runs on two hits, no walks, and nine strikeouts. Nicki Genre (8-1) took the loss for the Lady Statesmen giving up one run (unearned) on six hits, while striking out three.

Nora Conroy led the Bucs at the plate going two-for-three, while Smith went one-for-four with an RBI.

In game two, the Lady Statesmen jumped out to an early 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first on a sacrifice fly. In the top of the sixth with the bases loaded, Jenny Miranda was hit by a pitch, which scored the tying run. However, in the bottom of the eighth, DSU's Lauren LaSuzzo hit the game-winning RBI single to right field downing the Buccaneers 2-1 in extra innings.

Erin Cormier (3-1) took the loss in game two giving up two runs (one earned) on two hits, while striking out two. Nicki Genre (9-1) earned the win for the Lady Statesmen coming in the game as a reliever and pitched three scoreless innings.

Jenny Miranda led the Bucs offensively going one-for-three with an RBI.

The Buccaneers fall to 11-5 overall, while the Lady Statesmen improve to 11-5. The Bucs will return to action on Saturday, Mar. 9 playing Southern Arkansas at 1 p.m.
