Baseball Slips Past Knights

Box Score BOCA RATON, Fla. -- While trying to capture their first win of the season in Sunshine State Conference play, the Barry University baseball team slipped past the Lynn Fighting Knights 5-4 earlier this afternoon.

The Buccaneers scored two in the second, two in the fourth, and added one more run in the seventh for a 5-1 Buc lead. However, the Knights ignited a two-run rally in the bottom of the seventh inning and added one more in the eighth, but the Bucs fended off the Knights 5-4 for their first SSC win of the season.

Fernando Tapia (5-3) earned the win for the Buccaneers after hurling 6.2 innings and giving up three runs on eight hits, while allowing one walk and striking out seven. John Vinciguerra picked up his second save of the season after throwing the final 2.1 innings giving up one run on three hits. Adam Lopez (3-3) took the loss for the Knights. He pitched 6.1 innings giving up all five Buccaneer runs on seven hits and struck out eight.

The Bucs were led by freshman designated hitter Ricky Sanchez who went two-for-four with an RBI and a run scored. Chris Casale went one-for-three with two RBI, while Luis Boullon also went one-for-three and scored twice.

Jason Chehova led the Knights going three-for-four with two doubles, an RBI, and a run scored.

With the win, the Bucs improved to 17-12 overall and 1-3 in the SSC, while the Knights fell to 21-15, and 5-2 in the SSC. Both teams will meet again tomorrow, Saturday, Mar. 30 at 12:00 pm for the final two games of the three-game conference series.
