Box Score 2 MELBOURNE, Fla.--The Barry Buccaneers split a Sunshine State Conference softball doubleheader with the Florida Tech Panthers at Varsity Field Sunday afternoon, winning game one 10-0 and dropping the nightcap 10-3.
In game one, KD Smith socked a leadoff homer and Geralyn Elam (13-2) and Erin Cormier combined on a three-hit shutout. Elam went six innings, giving up three hits and one walk while striking out 12. Cormier closed out with a perfect inning.
Hillary Hamilton added a grand slam in the fifth inning and Lauren Hoffman closed out the scoring with a two-run single in the seventh.
In game two, the Panthers touched Lindsey Rhodes (3-4) for eight runs, five earned, in the first two innings and went on to win 10-3.
Smith added her second homer of the day in sixth inning.
Christine Custer (8-8) picked up the win for the Panthers going the distance and allowing three earned runs on six hits and three walks while striking out seven.
The Bucs are 21-7, 6-2 in the SSC and return home on Wednesday to take on Lynn at 6:00 pm. Florida Tech is 22-14, 5-7 in the league.
