Baseball Falls In Conference Series

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 MIAMI SHORES, Fla. -- In their conference opening series of the 2002 season, the Barry University baseball team fell hard to the Eckerd College Tritons 12-4 and 7-3 in the final two games of a three-ame series earlier today at Feinbloom Field.

In the first game, the Tritons pounded out 15 hits to the Buccaneers five en route to a 12-4 victory. Fernando Tapia (4-3) took the loss for the Bucs throwing three innings, while giving up six runs (five earned) on nine hits. Chris Pigott (3-1) earned the win for the Tritons after giving up two runs on three Buccaneers hits, while striking out six.

As a team, the Bucs only managed five hits, but Carl Ross came in as a pinch hitter in the eighth and went one-for-one with a single and an RBI.

Stephen Williams led the way for the Tritons going three-for-five with three doubles, three RBI, and two runs scored.

In the night-cap, the Buccaneers looked as though they were regaining control by jumping out in front 3-0 in the first three innings. However, the Tritons rallied back scoring one in the fourth, two in fifth, and topped things off with a four-run seventh downing the Bucs 7-3.

Alex Gonzalez (2-5) took the loss for the Bucs in game two giving up four runs (two earned) on six hits, while striking out seven. Andre Gonzalez (3-2) earned the win for the Tritons going the distance and giving up three runs on ten Buccaneer hits.

Adam Toro led the Bucs going two-for-four with a run scored, while Matt Regan paced the Tritons going three-for-four with three RBI.

The Buccaneers fell to 16-12 overall and 0-3 in the Sunshine State Conference, while the Tritons improved to 23-14, and 3-0 in the SSC. The Bucs will resume action next weekend with a three-game conference series with Lynn. First game is schedule for Friday, Mar. 29 at 3:00 pm.
