Box Score 2 FT. MYERS, Fla. -- Behind Chris Casale's game-winning RBI single in game one and three-for-three performance in game two, the Barry University baseball team won a pair of games at Terry Park in Ft. Myers defeating North Dakota 9-8, and Alderson Broaddus 3-0.
In game one, North Dakota jumped out in front with a three-run first inning. Trailing for the entire game, the Buccaneers were able to come from behind scoring four runs in the bottom of the ninth. With the bases loaded and no outs, Casale hit an RBI single that gave the Bucs the 9-8 win.
Jasmany Santana (1-0) earned his first collegiate win after coming in the game in the fifth inning. In five innings he gave up two runs (one earned) on three hits, while striking out two. Starter, Robert Penna threw the first four innings giving up six runs on seven hits. Reliever John Shonka (1-2) took the loss for North Dakota (5-5) giving up the Buccaneers' winning run in the ninth.
Billy Zoffinger led the Bucs offensive attack going three-for-five, while Luis Boullon went two-for-five with two RBI. Casale ended the game going two-for-four and two RBI including the game winner.
In the second game, the Buccaneers were in control from the first pitch. Scoring runs in the second, fourth, and sixth innings, the Bucs breezed past Alderson-Broaddus 3-0.
Alex Gonzalez (2-4) earned the win for the Bucs pitching a complete game shutout giving up four hits, while striking out five. John Matheny (1-2) took the loss for Alderson-Broaddus (6-9) giving up two runs on five hits.
Keeping his bat alive in the nightcap, Casale led the Bucs going three-for-three with an RBI. Both Luis Boullon and Adam Toro went two-for-two on the day with each scoring once.
With today's two victories, the Buccaneers improve to 15-8 overall. They will resume action on Sunday, Mar. 17 at 9 a.m. facing off with Ashland who is currently ranked in the top twenty-five.
