Men's Basketball Overthrows Knights

Box Score BOCA RATON, Fla. -- The Barry University men's basketball team overthrew the Lynn Fighting Knights 68-58 moving ahead of the Knights in the Sunshine State Conference race earlier tonight.

In the first half, the Knights took the lead 30-19 with 4:58 remaining. However, the Bucs went on a 18-3 run to close the half with a 37-33 halftime advantage.

The Buccaneers only gave up the lead once in the second half, but were able to regain control and hold on for the 68-58 victory.

The Buccaneers registered two players in double-figures with Curtis Tonge leading the way with a game-high 23 points, while adding 7 rebounds. Luis Vazquez-Bello added 14 points and nine rebounds. Returning after two-month absence because of an early season knee injury, Ronald Lewis came in off the bench added eight points and three rebounds.

The Knights were led by Willie Bryant with 16 points (12 in the first half), while James Taylor and Justin Wingard added 11 a piece. Wingard grabbed a game-high 14 rebounds.

The Buccaneers improved to 12-10 overall and 5-6 in the SSC moving ahead of the Knights (13-9, 4-7 SSC) in the conference standings to fifth place.

The Bucs will return to action at Saint Leo in SSC action on Saturday, Feb. 16 at 4:00 p.m.
