Box Score BOCA RATON, Fla. -- The Barry University men's basketball team slipped past the Indianapolis Greyhounds (6-4) 44-43 earlier this afternoon at the Palm Beach Sunshine Hoops Challenge hosted by Lynn University. The Buccaneers remain undefeated at 10-0, while also going 3-0 to win the tournament.
In the first half, the Buccaneers claimed the lead first, but a David Logan three-pointer gave the Greyhounds the lead 16-13 at the 8:19 mark. The Greyhounds continued to stretch their lead to 12 finally taking a 27-18 lead at the half.
The Buccaneer defense held the Greyhounds scoreless the first seven minutes of the second half until a Ronald Lewis three-pointer narrowed the gap to 36-35 at 6:17 giving the Bucs a glimmer of hope. With two seconds remaining, Luis Vazquez-Bello took an inbounds pass from teammate Yorell Calderon hitting the game winning three-pointer for the come-from-behind victory, 44-43.
Vazquez-Bello and
Nick Ellingsworth-Perez led the Buccaneer winning efforts with 10 points apiece, while Ellingsworth-Perez and Bryan Mills pulled down a team-high six boards each.
Jason Wright paced the Greyhounds with a game-high 16 points and 11 rebounds.
As the Buccaneers head into the Christmas break undefeated, they celebrate their best season start in addition to their longest-ever winning streak in school history. Only one word can describe the Buccaneers recent success and that is "defense". The Buccaneers are currently averaging 63 points per game, but their stellar defense has allowed their opponents 49 points per game, while also averaging 12 more rebounds a game than the opposition.
The Bucs return to the friendly confines of the Health & Sports Center on Dec. 29 hosting Bentley at 6 pm. It will be the first of a three-game home stand.
