Box Score MIAMI SHORES, Fla. -- The Barry University men's basketball team rebounded from their overtime conference loss earlier this week taming the Saint Leo Lions 75-61.
The Lions jumped out to an early 9-4 lead just five minutes into the game, but the Buccaneers responded going on a 33-0 run to take the lead 37-9 with 5:37 remaining in the half. At halftime, the Bucs led 46-15.
In the second half, the Lions began chipping away at the 31-point Buccaneer lead, but were unable to overcome the large deficit and the Bucs held on to win, 75-61.
After being held in check in their last outing, the Bucs leading scorer, Curtis Tonge, returned to form finishing with a game-high 25 points while hitting 5 of 8 from behind the arc. Luis Vazquez-Bello registered his second double-double of the season with 18 points and 10 rebounds while Andres Alfonso followed with 13.
The Lions were paced by Frank Craig with 19 points while John Stolard followed with 12 points.
The Buccaneers improved to 10-7 overall and 3-3 in the Sunshine State Conference while the Lions fell to 7-8 overall and 1-5 in the SSC. The Bucs will return to SSC action on Wednesday, January 30 traveling to Melbourne, Fla. to take on Florida Tech. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
