Men's Basketball Sinks Tars

Box Score MIAMI SHORES, Fla. -- The Barry University men's basketball team recovered from their only conference loss last week sinking the Rollins College Tars 70-60 in Sunshine State Conference play earlier tonight.

The Tars jumped on the board first, but the Buccaneers gained the momentum going on a 17-6 run sparked by Curtis Tonge reclaiming the lead 17-8 with 12:20 remaining in the first half. The Bucs led by as much as 13 but went into the half leading 39-28.

In the second half, the Tars began chipping away at the Bucs lead to bring the score to within one 50-49 with 8:32 remaining to play. However, the Buccaneers never let the lead change hands scoring 20 points in the final eight minutes for the 70-60 victory over the Tars.

Tonge's 21-point performance led the Buccaneer winning efforts for the tenth consecutive game while also grabbing 8 rebounds. Lincoln Glasford added a personal season best with 16 points and Andres Alfonso pulled down a team-high 11 boards.

Mike Veith paced the Tars with a double-double (18 points, 11 rebounds) while teammate Brian Casey added 14 points.

The Buccaneers improved to 9-5 overall and 2-1 in the Sunshine State Conference while the Tars fell to 9-6 overall and 1-2 in the SSC. The Buccaneers will return to action on Saturday, January 19 traveling to St. Petersburg, Fla. to take on conference foe Eckerd College at 7:30 p.m.
