Men's Basketball Outlasted by Spartans

Box Score TAMPA, Fla. -- The Barry University men's basketball team did all it could, fighting for another conference win over the University of Tampa, but the Spartans outlasted the Bucs in the final minutes 74-68.

The Buccaneers jumped on the board first, but the Spartans reclaimed the lead at the 15:52 mark in the first half 8-7. It was a lead that would never change hands again as the Spartans went into the half 35-34.

In the second half, the Spartans maintained control leading by 16 (the biggest lead of the game) with 8:17 remaining in the game. However, the Bucs then went on a 14-0 run to pull within two at the 4:48 mark, but it wasn't enough as the Spartans outlasted the Bucs, 74-68.

For the ninth consecutive game, Curtis Tonge led the Buccaneer in scoring with 22 points. Lincoln Glasford was the only other Buc to score double-digits with 14 points. Bryan Mills added a team-high nine rebounds.

Jon Brown paced the Spartans with 18 points while teammates Elijah Piazza and Sylvere Bryan followed with 17 and 10 respectively. Bryan also added a team-high 9 rebounds.

With the loss, the Buccaneers fall to 8-5 overall and 1-1 in the Sunshine State Conference, while the Spartans improved to 12-1 and 2-0 in the SSC. The Buccaneers will return to action on Wednesday, January 16 hosting conference foe Rollins College at 5:30 p.m.
