Mike Neveu, a former assistant women's soccer coach at the University of Cincinnati and Fairfield University (CT), has been named women's soccer coach at Barry University it was announced by Director of Athletics Mike Covone.

Neveu (NEV-you) becomes only the third coach in the history of the Barry program. He succeeds Brian Dooley, who recorded a 53-12-4 (79.7%) mark in four seasons, and Covone, who won three NCAA Division II national championships.

The former Associate Director of the Cardinal Soccer Club in Cincinnati, Ohio, Neveu was responsible for the training and coaching of 43 teams. He was the head coach of the Cardinal Premier U16 team that was a Midwest Regional semi-finalist last year. This past summer, he trained the U19 Cardinal Premier team to the USYS national championship in Orlando, Florida. Heavily involved with U.S. Soccer, Neveu has been a member of the Region II (14 states) coaching staff for the past two years and is the assistant coach with the 1984 regional team. He also served as a head coach in the Ohio South Olympic Development program for one year and as a coach in the Connecticut ODP (Region I during 1995 and 1996). Neveu also worked with the Adidas Cup international competition in Orlando, FL in February 1999.

Neveu began his collegiate coaching career as an assistant with the women's program at Fairfield University where he coached for two seasons beginning in 1994. He then moved on to the University of Cincinnati where he served two seasons with the women's program and helped guide the Bearcats to the NCAA tournament in 1997. During his two years at Cincinnati, the Bearcats compiled a 31-10-5 overall record, won Conference USA titles in 1996 and 1997 and captured the regular season title in 1997.

A graduate of the State University of New York-Brockport, Neveu earned his bachelor's degree in Physical Education with a concentration in Sport Management. He lettered three seasons as a player and made the school's All-Academic in 1991. He then went to the University of Northern Colorado where he earned a master's degree in Sport Management in 1994. He coached the men's club program at UNC.Neveu has both a national 'A' coaching license and a national youth license from the United States Soccer Federation. He has extensive camp and clinic experience to his credit. He also did an impressive internship with FC Barcelona, a professional team in Barcelona, Spain.

"Mike Neveu brings some outstanding credentials to Barry and we feel he will help continue the winning tradition our women's program has established," Covone said."I am honored Barry University has chosen me to lead its women's soccer program," Neveu said. "Barry is one of the elite soccer programs in the nation in any division, and because the program has had only two coaches in its history, there is a lot of continuity. I hope to add to that tradition and get the program back into the NCAA national championship match. I'm excited to get to Florida and get started." Neveu's first team returns two All-Americans and 10 starters from last year's 12-4 squad and is ranked #9 nationally in the pre-season NSCAA/NCAA II poll.
