Jake Castro Resigns as Women's Soccer Assistant Coach

MIAMI SHORES, Fla.- Jake Castro resigned as the women's soccer assistant coach to take an assistant coach position at Brown University in Rhode Island.

Castor joined the Buccaneers as the women's soccer assistant coach at the beginning of the 2025 fall season. He helped lead the team to a 5-5-9 record and the quarterfinal round of the Sunshine State Conference Tournament. The Bucs allowed just 19 goals in 19 games and tied for the conference lead with 12 shutouts. The Bucs set or tied three NCAA Division II records: most ties in a season, most scoreless ties (8) and most consecutive scoreless ties (5). Freshman keeper Marlen Hernandez was a Second-Team All-SSC pick.

In addition to his one season with the Bucs, Castro worked with the FIU Panthers in 2023 and 2024 helping the team achieve a 22-11-6, 9-3-5 USA conference record. In 2024. Following his collegiate career, Castro joined the staff for the remainder of the school year as an assistant working with both the team and goalkeepers. Throughout his time as a student, Castro worked in the sport full-time, working with various organizations in the northeast including Bruno United, Juventus Academy Boston, Resendes Soccer Academy, and amateur men's side Fall River FC, all in technical staff roles.

Castro currently holds both a US Soccer Federation (USSF) and FA Wales C license (UEFA) along with certifications in goalkeeping and director of coaching from the United Soccer Coaches organization. He recently spent time in the GK nexus mentorship program where he worked closely with Eric Steele, ex-Premier League goalkeeper coach and English FA instructor, to develop a deeper understanding of the role of the goalkeeper coach. Castro hopes to pursue both his USSF and UEFA B license soon. 

He earned his bachelor's degree in management & entrepreneurship from UMass-Dartmouth. 

The Bucs will begin a national search for his replacement.
