HOUSTON — Former Barry University men's basketball player Jevoni Robinson signed a free agent contract with the Houston Texans. The 6-8, 240-pound tight end was assigned to the team's practice squad.
Robinson played professional basketball in Italy last year, but turned to football this year. He had workouts with the Philadelphia Eagles, Indianapolis Colts and Tampa Buccaneers before signing with the Texans, following a private workout last Saturday.
"I made a decision, and I'm going to stick with it," Robinson said.
He first had workouts with NFL scouts while finishing his masters at Barry in 2016. In the summer, Robinson was contacted by NFL teams, but decided to give basketball a try one more time overseas. Now, he's committed to football.
The Texans' final game is this weekend at Indianapolis. Robinson will report back to the Texans for training camp. He is spending the final week of the season practicing with the team before the players return home Jan. 1.
"I'm fitting in real well," Robinson said.
Robinson played one year of basketball at Barry after transferring from North Carolina State. He averaged 5.4 points and 6.8 rebounds, while blocking 42 shots in 31 games with the Bucs in 2014-15.
