Men's Basketball Secures Home Court Playoff Game With Win Over Eckerd

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. -- The regular season has come and gone but the Barry Men's Basketball team continues to fight on. In the final game for the regular season, the Buccaneer took down Eckerd 85-79 from the McArthur Center on Saturday afternoon to clinch a home playoff game in the Sunshine State Conference Tournament as the fourth seed.

SUMMARY:

  • 1H - Eckerd started out in front with a 7-0 run. Deon Perry was able to get Barry on the board with a layup nearly two minutes in. That sparked a 12-0 run for the Bucs who took the 12-7 lead. Ryan Van Eyck had seven of the 12 points. The Tritons regained the lead at 21-20 with 9:09 on the clock. Sami Elkamel slammed one in to cap off another 12-point run for the Bucs.     2H – It was all tied up at 61-all with 7:37 remaining in the game. Van Eyck then gave the Bucs some breathing room knocking down a triple. A 13-3 run made it a 10-point game once again with time winding down. Eckerd was able to fight back once again and make it a two-point game with nine seconds remaining. Deon Perry hit the clutch free throws that made it a two-possession lead and Michael Bradley III called game with the final free throws. | Barry 85, Eckerd 79

NOTEWORTHY:

  • Five Buccaneers tallied double figures.
  • Šarenac led the way with 16 points, he was a rebound shy of a double-double with nine boards.
  • Van Eyck and Tarrance Warren each had 15, Malik Stanley contributed 12, and Perry 11.
  • The bench scored 51 points, scoring just as much as Eckerd's starters.
  • The Bucs finish fourth in the conference, after being picked eighth, in head coach Justin Furr's inaugrual season.
  • It is the first winning SSC season and first-time hosting since 2021-22.

Barry will host Tampa for the SSC Quarterfinals on Tuesday, March 3 with tip set at 7:00 p.m.
