TAMPA, Fla. -- The Barry Buccaneers had a lead early in their Sunshine State Conference series opener against the second-ranked Tampa Spartans, but fell 4-3 at the Tampa Baseball Field on Thursday Night.

NOTEWORTHY:
- Tobin Moran (2-0) worked three scoreless inning in relief to earn the win. He allowed one hit and one walk and struck out six.
- Fikar, who started the game at second base, cam on to close the game out in the ninth and struck out all three batters he faced.Â
- Tyler Venegas (5-2) took the loss for Barry. He went six innings, allowing four runs on eight hits and two walks and struck out seven.
- Tralongo and Zavier Hatfield each had two hits for the Bucs.
- Woodburn and Jesse Ponce eac had two hits for Tampa.
