Men's Basketball | 6/23/2026 10:00:00 AM

MIAMI SHORES, Fla. -- Head coach Justin Furr announced the addition of freshman point guard Eli Schwartzman from Farmington High in Arkansas for the 2026-27 season. Schwartzman is the first signee in the class.

"We are very excited to bring a player of Eli's high school pedigree to Barry;" Furr said. "He is an elite passer who makes everyone around him better, which is evident by his Arkansas high school record of assists in a game and in a season. We strive to bring players from winning programs, and we checked that box with Eli. Johnny Taylor (Farmington HS) and Sean Siler (AAO Flight) are two of the best coaches in Arkansas and have helped shape Eli into the player he is today. We are very excited to welcome Eli and his family to Miami Shores."

A 5-10 guard from Farmington, Ark., Schwartzman led Farmington High to a 30-2 record and a state semifinal appearance senior year. Swartzmann averaged 12.1 points, 4.5 rebounds, and 12.1 assists per game as a senior with the Cardinals.

"Eli chose Barry University because of Coach Furr and his ability to develop players," Taylor said. "Coach Furr has a unique style of play that will be a great fit for Eli's skill set."

Schwartzman's 12.1 assists led the nation. He set state records with 28 assists in a game, 338 assists in a season and eight three-pointers in a quarter. Schwartzman recorded 14 total double-doubles senior year and lead Farmington to a 82-11 mark over three seasons. The 28 assists rank seventh on the national list.

"I believe in what Coach Furr is building," Schwartzman said. "He showed me that he believed in me. I was searching for a culture that I believed would be a good fit and can't wait to be part of BarryU Men's Basketball."

The Buccaneers are coming off a 17-13 record and a Sunshine State Conference Semifinals appearance.
