MIAMI SHORES, Fla.— Lloyd Knudson, who joined the Barry University athletic staff last fall on a contract basis, was hired as assistant athletic director for sports medicine/health care coordinator, director of athletics Dr. Scott Smith announced.
"Lloyd brings a wealth of experience to our sports medicine program and he has done an outstanding job providing leadership to the staff in the interim these past six months," Smith said. "His vision for sports medicine aligns well with our interest to expand athletic programs."
Knudson bring over 25 years of athletic training experience to The Shores, including college stops at Florida A&M and Tusculum, as well as serving as preceptor for the University of Miami. He is well-versed in prevention, recognition, evaluation, treatment, rehabilitation, physician referrals, record keeping, and coordination of requisite diagnostic exams for athletes' injuries.
"I'm excited at the opportunity to take the Sports Medicine Program into the next chapter, Knudson said. "I want to thank Dr. Scott Smith for the opportunity and can't thank Maggie (McCormick) and Susie (Traver) enough for their hard work and dedication this past year."
Coming to Miami in 2021, he served two years as the head athletic trainer at Ramson Everglades, before joining Premier Sports Medicine in 2024. He was the Florida director of sports medicine for a year before becoming the national director in 2025.
He earned his bachelor's degree in exercise and sports science, with an emphasis in athletic training from Iowa State in 2000 and his master's degree in student counseling and personnel services from Kansas State in 2002.
His is board certified by NATABOC and licensed by the state of Florida department of heath. He also holds certifications from the American Heart Association as a rescuer and the American Red Cross in first aid.
