Men's Volleyball Ends Week With Another Win Over EWU

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- A clean sweep on the week for the Barry Men's Volleyball team as they pick up their 17th win of the season with a back-to-back victory over Edward Waters. On day two, the Buccaneers took it in a four-set match.

INSIDE THE MATCHUP:
Final: Barry 3, Edward Waters 1
Records: Barry (17-5), Edward Waters (3-12)
All-Time Series: Barry leads 3-0

HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • Set One The middles get it done again for the first point of the match, this time Maddox Gifford delivering the kill to get the Bucs going. It trickled into a four-point run for Barry for the early lead. It was a dominate set that ended rather quickly as Edward Waters only scored 12 points, half of which came on errors from the Bucs. The offense hit .409 with 12 kills while the defense held the Tigers to just six kills and a .100 swing percentage. | Barry 25, EWU 12
  • Set Two – Edward Waters took the lead first in the second set off a service error. Diego Alvarez checked in and quickly made his presence known with a kill that gave the Bucs their first point. The set worked its way to a tie at 12-all before the Bucs ran off on a 5-1 run that gave them the gap they needed. It was a late comeback for EWU who fended off four straight set points before Barry could close it out. A service error ended their run. Alvarez led the way with five kills on the set and a .833 clip in the process. The team made just one attacking error in the set. | Barry 25, EWU 21
  • Set Three – The Tigers took the third set after they made a comeback and flipped the scoreboard at 16-16. They score three straight to make give themselves the lead and cushion to force a fourth set. All seven players on the court recorded a kill with Aaron Martinez and Jeremy Ferreira tallying three each. | EWU 25, Barry 22
  • Set Four – Looking to get back into rhythm, the Bucs were able to hold a slight advantage over Edward Waters. The lead grew after a six-point run that had two service aces from Jacob Strnisa. The Tigers did not go away easily as they came back and evened it up at 10-all. It was a back-and-forth affair until the Bucs broke off four-straight after a 14-14 tie that gave them enough breathing room to finish off the set and take the match. Strnisa delivered the final kill. | Barry 25, EWU 19
