History Made For Men's Volleyball in Sweep of Hawks

Barry sets a new program record for wins in a season

MIAMI SHORES, Fla. - History rewritten for the Barry Men's Volleyball team as they set a new program record for wins in a single season with their 11th on Friday evening. The Buccaneers took down Quincy for the latter half of the back-to-back with their 10th sweep on the year. Barry has won 18 straight sets, riding a six-match win streak.

INSIDE THE MATCHUP:
Final: Barry 3, Quincy 0
Records: Barry (11-3), Quincy (3-6)
All-Time Series: Barry leads series 2-0

HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • Set One - Two big blocks gave Barry early momentum picking up where they left off last night. Elias Fuhrer and Jacob Strnisa picked up the back-to-back solos. After trailing by as much as five, Quincy worked their way back into the set tying it up at 12-all and taking the lead right after trading the lead back and forth, Barry was able to close the set on a 4-1 run after being tied at 21-all. The Buccaneers had 15 kills but six errors in the set. Aaron Martinez had six kills in the set and passed a perfect eight services. All four of Barry's blocks came in the set. | Barry 25, Quincy 22
  • Set Two - It was a more dominate set for the Bucs as they held the lead from nearly start to finish, minus the first point of the set. Barry had an 83-percent side out rate putting away 15 of the possible 18. There were not attacking errors on 12 kills for a .429 hitting percentage. The Hawks hit .091 on the set with seven errors and four service errors. | Barry 25, Quincy 17
  • Set Three - As for much of the weekend, both teams traded the lead and were tied up. Four straight points after being down 6-8 flipped the board and had Barry up 10-8. Philip Tein checked in and got the final kill of the match for Barry to sweep the Hawks. It was an even attack for Barry as six different players rallied a kill. João Piazza Baumgartem had all 10 assists in the set. | Barry 25, Quincy 21

NOTEWORTHY:

  • Aaron Martinez set a new career high with 12 kills. He hit .400 on the night with just two errors.
  • Bobby Clapp had a great evening on the back row with 10 digs. It is his sixth double digit dig match this season.
  • Zachary Jabr had six kills and eight digs on the night.
  • Jacob Strnisa neared a double-double with 12 kills and eight digs.
  • Piazza Baumgartem has collected his fourth 30-assists match, setting a new career high with 31. It is third most in a 3-set in program history.
