Men's Volleyball Sweeps Quincy For Fifth Straight Win

Barry sets a new program record for longest win steak

MIAMI SHORES, Fla. - After a week off of action, Barry Men's Volleyball hosted Quincy on Thursday evening at the Health and Sports Center Gym. The Buccaneers honored University faculty and staff pregame. The team sets a new program record for longest win streak with their fifth in a row, and tie the single season record for win with their 10th.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • Set One - Barry scored the first point of the match with a kill from William Phinizy. It was a close match with nether team grabbing much breathing room. After a 13-13 tie, Barry rallied together five straight to grab a set lead that would carry through. Jeremy Ferreira held service in the run and collected a kill and two service aces. Another five point rally ended the set. | Barry 25, Quincy 18
  • Set Two - The Hawks jumped out first with a kill to start the second set. Quincy held the lead late at 23-20 and was looking to tie the match up. The Bucs regrouped after a timeout and string together three straight to tie it up. It sparked a 5-0 run to end the set as Jacob Strnisa hit the dagger with a service ace after a Hawks timeout, Zachary Jabr had the set point with a block solo straight down the middle. | Barry 25, Quincy 23
  • Set Three - Barry carried that momentum for a hot start, leading 7-3. It was a quick flip around for the Hawks scoring six straight to flip the scoreboard at 9-7. The Bucs worked from behind deep in the set as Quincy held an 18-16 lead. Jabr followed a kill and a service ace to tie the set up. A 7-2 run closed out the set and match for Barry. Five of the seven points were earned via a kill as Strnisa had three of them. | Barry 25, Quincy 20

NOTEWORTHY:

  • Strnisa led the offense with 15 kills and hitting .370, adding three aces and seven digs.
  • Jabr had nine kills and hit .318 with two blocks and seven digs.
  • Barry had double digit kills in every set at 11, 15, and 15. 
  • It is the fourth tim ethe Bucs had 40-plus kills in a three set match this season.
  • Piazza Baumgartem quarterbacked the offense to 30 assists on 41 kills. He also had three digs and two kills.
  • This was the ninth sweep of the season, making 90-percent of the victories via a sweep.
  • Statically the Bucs dominated the box score at 41-26 in kills and 38-25 in assists.
