Historic Win For Men's Volleyball Puts Them At Three In A Row

Barry takes down AVCA receiving votes Fort Valley State

FORT VALLEY, Ga. It was a historic night for the Barry Men's Volleyball team in the Peach State on Friday evening. The Bucs took down Fort Valley State in three straight sets. FVSU is receiving votes in the latest AVCA Coaches' Poll, making it the first time Barry has beat an opponent mentioned in the poll. It is also the first three-match winning streak for the program.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • Set One - Maddox Gifford got the block party started early denying the Wildcats their first point. FVSU came back and took a 12-7 lead to gain control in the set of multiple point runs. Barry slowly chipped away and kept themselves alive in the set. Fending off match point at 24-22, the Buccaneers rallied together four straight for the comeback victory. It was four straight kills that closed the deal. Barry hit .357 in the set with with 13 kills, while collecting four blocks. | Barry 26, FVSU 24
  • Set Two - It was a similar start for both teams in the second set going back and forth. Barry used a 5-0 run to gain separation at 19-16 and never looked back. Jacob Strnisa had seven kills hitting .500 in the set. It was another four block set for the defense. | Barry 25, FVSU 23
  • Set Three - The Bucs had to work from behind again but this time had an 8-0 rally that flipped the scoreboard. Back to back errors ended the match for the Wildcats. The offense spread more among five players. The defense collect their third straight four set block in the match. | Barry 25, FVSU 18

NOTEWORTHY:

  • Strnisa had 15 kills, the second most this season. He added six block assists and three digs.
  • Zachary Jabr was a big contributor with 10 kills and four blocks with six digs.
  • Barry had 20 block assists for a new season-high. It also ties for seventh most in a match and the 12 total blocks ties for sixth most.
  • The seven service aces ties for second most in a match.
  • It is the third time in Jabr's career to have three in a match.
  • Tristan Blake had 23 assists, with Saïd Bennaji getting his third straight match with six.
