Cardiac Bucs Make It Four Straight For Men's Volleyball

FORT VALLEY, Ga. Make it four straight wins for the Buccaneers Men's Volleyball team who took down AVCA receiving votes Fort Valley State for the second straight night. Saturday afternoon needed a bigger push as the Bucs came from down 2-1 to win the five-setter.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • Set One - Jeremy Ferreira got the offense going with the first kill and point for the Bucs. He immediately followed with a block with the help of Tristan Blake. It was a quick 6-1 lead in favor of Barry. They cruised to a first set victory carrying the moment from the night before. The offense hit .269 with 12 kills, while the defense forced a -0.095 hitting percentage for the Wildcats. | Barry 25, FVSU 20
  • Set Two - Fort Valley State was able to get going and have a 3-0 start to the set. That held through the set as they tied the match up at one all. Barry struggled offensively with just six kills, while FVSU had 14 and swung .375. | FVSU 25, Barry 17
  • Set Three - After getting a little reset, the Bucs came out and jumped to an early 4-0 lead in the third set. Barry held the lead for the majority of the set up the scoreboard flipped at 16-17 in favor of the Wildcats. It was a tight finish, but FVSU was able to take the match lead after winning the third set. Although Barry had more kills at 13-9, the 10 service errors proved to be the differentiator. | FVSU 25, Barry 23
  • Set Four - With the match at stake, the Buccaneers needed to battle to force a winner take all set, in which they did. Aaron Martinez helped do just that securing the first point of th set on a kill. Barry was able to use multiple runs to cruise to the fifth set. Jeremy Ferreira, Zachary Jabr, and Jacob Strnisa each had three kills in the set. It was the second time the defense forced a negative hitting percentage for the Wildcats. | Barry 25, FVSU 17
  • Set Five - The Bucs had early control of the set. Fort Valley State stayed in it and fended off four match points while holding one themselves. Barry was able to string together two points first in deuce action as Strnisa and Martinez closed out the match. Strnisa had seven kills in the set and hit .500. | Barry 19, FVSU 17

NOTEWORTHY:

  • Strnisa had 20 kills for a new career-high. He also added eight digs, two blocks, and a service ace.
  • Zachary Jabr had 12 kills for his second most this season and fourth time in double digits.
  • Bobby Clapp had 13 digs for his fourth match in double figures this season. 
  • Tristan Blake had 43 assists, the second most in a match in program history and his second career-high.
  • Jeremy Ferreira had eight blocks, a career-high. It ties for the second most in a five set match and fifth most in a match overall.
  • It was back to back matches with seven service aces for Barry. 
  • Barry is 2-1 all time in three set matches.

UP NEXT:
Barry will head home for two matches next week against Emmanuel, the first one is on February 6th at 6:00pm from the Health and Sports Center.
