Men's Volleyball Dominates Lees-McRae in Back to Back Sweeps

The Buccaneers were in full control of the match in their second straight win

MIAMI SHORES, Fla. The Buccaneers men's volleyball team was firing on all cylinders as they sweep Lees-McRae for the second day in a row.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • Set One - For the first time on the weekend, Lees McRae scored the first point in a set. Barry then had a three-point stretch as the defense from Maddox Gifford stepped up for back to back blocks. Zachary Jabr came in and closed out the set for Barry to win their fourth set in a row. The Bucs had 14 kills in the set, hitting .303 while picking up five blocks. | Barry 27, Lees-McRae 20
  • Set Two - Back to back errors from the Bobcats gave Barry the 2-0 lead. The Bucs were able to manage multiple 3-0 runs to gain space and comfortably take the set. Jacob Strnisa closed it out for the two set match lead. LMC hit .000 in the set, while Barry had 11 kills and hit .267. | Barry 25, Lees-McRae 16
  • Set Three - The third set was the closest one as it was tied late at 16-16. Jeremy Ferreira came in and opened up the gap with back to back service aces to give Barry enough momentum to close out the match. A service error for Lees-McRae ended the match. The Bucs struggled n service with 11 service errors, but was able to overcome it with a strong offense 17 kills on just one attaking error for a .485 hitting percentage. | Barry 25, Lees-McRae 21

NOTEWORTHY:

  • Strnisa had his second straight 14-kill night while hitting .444.
  • It is the fourth highest average in a match in program history.
  • Aaron Martinez tied his career-high with 11 kill, hitting .308.
  • This was the highest hitting percentage for the team with year.
  • Tristan Blake had 27 assists, with Saïd Bennaji tying his career high with six.
  • Statistically Barry led in most categories dominating blocks 9-2 and kills 42-26.

UP NEXT:
Barry will head to Georgia next week for a back-to-back matchup against Fort Valley State on January 30-31.
