MIAMI SHORES, Fla.— In the 2026 home opener, the Barry Men's Volleyball team swept Lees-McRae in their first ever match up on Friday evening from the Health and Sports Center.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Set One - Jacob Strnisa got the scoring started with the first kill. Barry opened up on a 4-1 rally to get the early momentum. It was a battle throughout the whole set, Barry was one point away from closing it out at 24-20 but the Bobcats fought back to tie it up at 24-all. Jeremy Ferreira was able to close it out however with a service ace for the match lead. The Bucs hit .412 in the set compared to LMC's .273. | Barry 27, Lees-McRae 25
- Set Two - Tristan Blake got the set started with a kill. It was another 4-1 start for the Bucs in the set before Lees-McRae worked their way back into it. Barry was able to go on a 5-1 run to give themselves enough space to carry out the second set and take a two set lead. It was a tough Bobcat defense as they accumulated four blocks, but the Bucs also forced a .032 hitting percentage for LMC. Five different Buccaneers recorded a kill in the set. | Barry 25, Lees-McRae 20
- Set Three - For the third set in a row, the Buccaneers struck first as Maddox Gifford had the first kill. There was a plethora of service errors that made up most of the first points for either team in the set. A 9-2 run gathered a large gap that would carry through for the Bucs in the set win. Ferreira called game with the final strike down the middle of the court. Gifford and Strnisa split the attack with four kills each. Barry hit .345 compared to another sub-100 percentage for Lees-McRae. | Barry 25, Lees-McRae 17
NOTEWORTHY:
- Jacob Strnisa led the team with 14 kills while hitting .367. He was the only player in the match in double figures.
- Zachary Jabr and Aaron Martinez both had seven kills in the match.
- Martinez added a career-high six digs.
- This is a new career-high for Aaron Martinez in kills.
- Bobby Clapp led the back row with 14 digs.
- Tristan Blake had 27 assists, tied for third most in a 3-set match.
- Statistically Barry led in all categories except blocks.
