AUSTIN, Texas – Barry senior Tim Riedel was named to the 2024-25 Academic All- America® men's tennis teams selected by College Sports Communicators.
Riedel, from Sehnde, Germany, was named to the Second-Team after graduating with a 3.95 GPA in Kinesiology & Sports Science this May. He led the Buccaneers to the regular season and tournament championships in the Sunshine State Conference. The Bucs also captured the NCAA South Region 2 title and advanced to the quarterfinals of the national tournament.
Riedel was 10-4 in the spring season, mostly playing at #4 singles. He beat Embry-Riddle's Enrico Rosellini 6-4, 7-5 at #2 singles on Apr. 5 and helped clinch the SSC Tournament title with a 6-1, 6-2 win over Florida Southern's Matthew Hewitt in the championship match. He was also a stalwart on the doubles courts, going 17-6 with partner Gabriele Felline at #2 doubles. The pair were named First-Team All-SSC.
Riedel is one of seven repeat selections on the Academic All-America® Division II men's tennis teams. He is joined by Chris Fok Kow (Florida Southern), Elias Walter (Asuza Pacific), Cedric Drenth (Wayne State), Alexander Leischner (Point Loma Nazarene), and Hugo Munoz Reinoso (Adelphi) as repeat honorees. Aldephi's Marko Jovanovic was also named to the Academic All-America® first team for the third consecutive year.
The Division II Academic All-America® program is being financially supported by the NCAA Division II national governance structure to assist the College Sports Communicators with handling the awards fulfillment aspects for the 2024-25 Division II Academic All-America® program.
Riedel earned the 25th Academic All-America in men's tennis program history and becomes the first back-to-back winner single Alejandro Ibañez Gallego in 2022 and 2023.
