SURPRISE, Ariz. -- The second-ranked and top-seeded Barry Buccaneers powered to a 4-0 victory over the #21 Azusa Pacific Cougars at the 2026 NCAA Division II Men's Tennis Championship at Surprise Tennis & Racquet Club on Thursday to advance to the national semifinals.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Barry's 19th-ranked duo Trione and Cavalleri pulled a major upset by beating the Cougar's fifth-ranked pair Grandke and Pinoit 7-5 at number one doubles.
- Lynch and Machado clinched the doubles point 7-5 over Brownlee and Van Craenenbroeck at number two.
- In singles, Machado rolled over the Cougars' hero from the first round, Behrend, 6-2, 6-1.
- Second-ranked Kodjoed rallied back to win his first set in a tiebreaker, before shutting out Pinoit in the second set 7-6(7), 6-0.
- The clinch came at number three, as #33 Lynch powered to a 6-4, 7-5 win over Brownlee to sent the Bucs into the national semifinals.
- The other matches went unfinished.
NOTEWORTHY:
- For Barry, it is their 18th time overall to advance to the NCAA semifinals and the first since winning the national championship in 2023.
- Barry has won seven national championships, including the last four in a row from 2019 to 2023. The Bucs are currently tied for second all-time in championships with Southern Illinois-Edwardsville. Lander has the record with eight.
- Machado leads the team with 17 singles wins this spring (17-1), while Lynch is 15-1.
- It was the seventh time that the Bucs and Cougars had met on the courts, with Barry winning all seven. The last meeting came in 2018 in Melbourne, Fla., and the Bucs also won the last time in Surprise in 2015 in the first round at the finals.
ON THE HORIZON
The Bucs will take on the seventh-ranked and fourth-seeded Catawba Indians in the semifinals of the NCAA DII Championship match on Saturday, May 23. The Indians lost thedoubles point, but came back to win at the top four singles flights to beat Texas-Tyler 4-1 in the quarterfinals.
