Men's Volleyball Last Minute Effort Falls Short Against Sharks

MIAMI SHORES, Fla.  The last minute effort fell short for the Barry Men's Volleyball team as they drop in four sets to Long Island University from the Health and Sports Center on Friday evening.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • Set One -  After falling behind 2-0, Barry rallied to take their first lead at 5-4. Both team traded points with the Bucs picking up back to back blocks to make it 10-8. Barry held a three point advantage until the Sharks came back to tie it up at 16-all. From there, LIU took the lead and although tied multiple times, the Sharks pulled away and took the set. LIU hit .538 in the set with 16 kills and just two attacking errors.| Barry 22, LIU 25
  • Set Two - Another back and forth battle took place up until 4-4. LIU then scored four straight taking advantage of two Buc errors to make it 8-4. The lead held through the sent as the Sharks took a two set advantage. The Bucs offense struggled hitting -.083 with nine errors hitting into 4.5 blocks. | Barry 18, LIU 25
  • Set Three - Barry came out the gate a new team scoring four straight. The set started with back to back blocks for the Bucs. The Sharks slowly started to chip away and took the lead at 13-12. Trading back and forth, Barry rallied three straight with blocks from Ryan Uridel and Zachary Jabr to regain the lead at 22-20.A service error ended the set and gave the Buccaneers their first set win. | Barry 25, LIU 23
  • Set Four - The momentum carried over for Barry as they took aa five point advantage at 11-5 with Jabr and Colton Beres getting a kill and Uridel and Jabr picking up a block. The Bucs looked to be forcing a fifth set, holding at 22-18, but LIU had different plans as they flipped three set points to take 25-24 advantage with a huge triple block to tie it up at 24. Another timely block for the Sharks would end the match. | Barry 25, LIU 27

NOTEWORTHY:

  • The Bucs led in service aces att 7-5.
  • LIU led in all other statistical categories, leading in kills 54-39, assists 49-39, blocks 15-7, and digs 39-28.
  • Barry was led by Colton Beres who had 11 of his 17 kills in the fourth set. 
  • Zachary Jabr was behind with nine kills, three service aces, four blocks, and four digs.
  • Tristan Blake had 34 assists and led in digs with eight.
  • Ryan Uridel led in blocks with six.
  • LIU had three members in double digit kills and hit .286 as a team.
UP NEXT:
Barry will host Roosevelt and St. John Fisher tomorrow to wrap up a five match week at home. First serve is at 1:00 p.m. from the Health and Sports Center.
