Women's Soccer Places Six On Academic All-District Team

Applegate, Caon, Evans, Shean, Simon and Wallfur Skiljic earn academic honors

MIAMI SHORES, Fla. -- Six members of the Barry women's soccer team earned Academic All-District honors from College Sports Communicators.

Juniors Maya Caon, Makenzie Shean and Ella Wallfur Skiljic, along with sophomores Mia Applegate, Tessa Evans and Grace Simon posted the requisite grade point averages, while satisfying the playing requirements. Candidates must post a minimum 3.50 GPA, while either playing in 90 percent of the team's games, or starting at least 66 percent of the games.

Caon, a keeper from Loria, Italy, carries a 4.0 GPA in exercise science. She played in 13 games, starting 11 for the Bucs. She went 4-4-3 between the pipes, with a 0.77 goals against average and three shutouts. 

Shean, a transfer midfielder from Franklin Pierce, has a 4.0 GPA in accounting. Playing in 15 games and starting seven, she was tied for second on the team with four assists.

Wallfur Skiljic, a midfielder from Sävedalen, Sweden, has a 3.976 GPA in business management. She played in 15 games, starting eight. She chipped in one goal and one assist in 526 minutes of action.

Applegate, a forward from Greenwood, S.C., has complied a 3.719 GPA at Barry, with a double major in finance and mathematics. She played in all 16 games this season, making nine starts. She scored twice and added two assists.

Evans, a midfielder from Bartlett, Ill., has a 3.758 GPA in sport management. She saw action in all 16 games, starting 14. She tied for the team lead with three goals, including the game-winner against Edward Waters, and added three assists. She was tied for second on the team with nine points.

Simon, a central defender from Brighton, Mich., played and started in 14 games this season. She helped lead a defense that posted a 0.81 goals against average and five shutouts, while adding one assist offensively.

The 2023 Academic All-District® Men's and Women's Soccer Teams, selected by College Sports Communicators, recognize the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the field and in the classroom.

Academic All-District® honorees advance to the CSC Academic All-America® ballot. First-, second and third-team men's soccer Academic All-America® honorees will be announced December 19. The CSC Academic All-District® teams include the student-athletes listed at the links above.

The Division II CSC Academic All-America® programs are partially financially supported by the NCAA Division II national governance structure to assist CSC with handling the awards fulfillment aspects for the 2022-23 Divisions II Academic All-America® programs.
