MIAMI SHORES, Fla. -- Head coach Tafadzwa Ziyenge announced an addition to the women's soccer team this spring as Maya Caon joins the squad from NAIA power Lindsey Wilson in Kentucky.
"We are excited to bring in Maya to the Buccaneer family," Ziyenge said. "She had a standout year as the first choice goalkeeper for Lindsey Wilson, a traditional powerhouse in the NAIA. We expect her to add competition in an area where we already enjoyed a lot of success in last year."
Caon played two seasons for coach Drew Burwash with the Blue Raiders. She went 12-8-4 between the pipes, with a 1.65 goals against average and 77.4 save percentage. She was named an honorable mention NAIA All-American as a freshman in 2021 and Daktronics NAIA Scholar-Athlete in 2022. She was also named first-team All-Mid-South Conference at keeper both seasons. Her 181 saves in two seasons is the second-most in Blue Raider history.
Caon is originally from Loria, Italy and prepped at Liceo Scientifico Jacapo under Roberto Boizan. She also played volleyball and threw the shot in track & field.
"I choose Barry because I think is a great program where I can improve a lot and we can accomplish so much with this team!" Caon said. "I expect to improve and get closer with my team, and fight together for the national championship title."
Caon is majoring in exercise science.
