MIAMI SHORES, Fla. -- Head coach Butch Estes added a graduate transfer guard from conference rival Saint Leo in Rusty Moorer this fall.

"When Rusty went into the transfer portal, he caught my attention right away," Estes said. "Because, when we played against him, he had 28 points against us (Mar. 2, 2019). There is an old saying if you can't beat them, join them. Since we couldn't stop him, we asked him to join us and were glad he is here with us. He is a great leader and talent!"

Moorer earned Second-Team All-Sunshine State Conference honors in 2020-21, leading the Lions to their first-ever SSC Tournament championship. Moorer averaged 14.9 points, 3.1 rebounds and 3.4 assists as the Lions went 7-1 and defeated Florida Southern 83-70 to win the tournament. Moorer scored season-high 28 points in the championship game. He shot 43.7 percent from the field, including 46.2 percent from behind the arc, and 78.1 percent from the line.

In three seasons with the Lions, he scored 550 points (8.7 per game). As a freshman at Coastal Alabama CC, he scored 378 points (14.5 per game) as the Sun Chiefs went 20-9. He chipped in 3.5 rebounds and 4.9 assists with a 2:1 assist:turnover ratio.

I entered the transfer portal to seek a new challenge," Moorer said. "It just felt like the right fit for what was at the right time. The opportunity to live in Miami was a big plus as well. I feel like if we come together we can do something special."
