WHAT THEY'RE SAYING:
"Today, we ran into a team that was ready to play and play great," said head coach
Butch Estes, "They knocked us down early, but fortunately they didn't knock us out and our guys responded and made plays down the stretch. Milon [Sheffield], Nick [Anderson], and Jake [Kakar] were all spectacular in the second half and shot the lights out."
SUMMARY:
- 1H - After a back-and-forth first few minutes, PBA ripped off a 10-0 run to force a Buccaneer timeout. Overall, Barry shot a horrid 30 percent from the field in the first half compared to 60 percent for the Sailfish. The Sailfish scored at will down low, out scoring the Bucs 28-14 in the paint. A Jake Kakar triple at the 2:06 was the only Buccaneer field goal in the last six minutes of the half. | PBA 42, Barry 29
- 2H - The Bucs snapped back into it to start the second half, beginning by trading a few buckets with the Sailfish before ripping off a 16-3 run capped off by back-to-back-to-back triples from Sheffield, Kakar, and Landon Kirkwood. The Sailfish continued to show fight, building their lead back up to nine points with just over ten minutes to play. In resilient fashion, Barry would not take their foot of the gas going on a 19-6 run to give themselves a four-point lead with 4:15 to play. Anderson came up huge for the Bucs down the strech, sinking a dagger into the Sailfish with a corner three with :33 left that gave the Bucs a four-point lead and nailing a pair of free throws with :04 seconds left to ice the game. | Barry 90, PBA 85
NOTEWORTHY:
- Kakar logged a season-high 23 points on 9-of-14 shooting from the field including a 5-for-9 mark from downtown.
- Anderson was once again captain clutch for the Bucs scoring 14 of his 17 points in the second half.
- Barry tied their season-high with 24 assists.
- The Bucs shot a blistering 69 percent (9-of-13) from deep in the second half.
