TAMPA, Fla. -- Historic is the only way to describe the performance that allowed the Buccaneers to take home their fourth Sunshine State Conference crown in the program's history. After a regular season in which Barry held the top spot all year, the Buccaneers once again delivered on the hype to begin the postseason, winning the SSC Championship with a record-shattering score of 20 strokes under-par at the Lake Jovita Course. The SSC is known to be the bastion of talent in men's golf at the DII level, proven by the fact that four of the conferences teams were ranked in the Top-10 of GolfStats latest rankings.

Niclas Weiland captured his second win of the season on Tuesday, turning in rounds of 71, 68, & 68 to finish the tournament with a two-stroke lead on second place at nine-under par. The senior led the field in par-four scoring and finished second in birdies with 15 to his name.

"I am very happy for the guys," Bucs head coach Jimmy Stobs said. "They have been working hard to achieve this goal. Anytime you can win the Sunshine State Conference it's great, with it being the toughest conference tournament to win in the country. Now after a couple days off, we will start preparing for the super regional," Stobs added.

"We try to play the best we can every time we tee it up,"Bucs assistant coach Ryan Hand said. "It was a great team win for us. It was nice to check off another goal for this season. We have a good group of guys and looking we're looking forward to continuing our season. " Hand added.

"After coming so close in years past with runner-up finishes in my freshmen and junior years, it felt really good to finish with a win this year!," Weiland said. "It was even better when the whole team finished inside the top ten individually and we won the team championship in the best conference in the nation!" Weiland added.

NOTEWORTHY:

  • The Buccaneers recorded the lowest three-round score in tournament history, finishing the event at -20.
  • Barry is the first school since 2002 to place all five of their golfers in the Top-10.
