SEASIDE, Calif. -- Barry University's top-ranked men's golf team finished strong and secured the victory in the final round of the Otter Invitational on Tuesday, Oct. 22. The win makes it three in a row for the Buccaneers. They ended the tournament with a 14-stroke lead on second place, the host Cal State San Marcos. Barry shots rounds of 290, 282, and 293.

Stanislaus State's Brad Sparrer won the individual trophy at -6 but Barry's Felipe Alvarez took home second place after finishing at -3. The Bucs closed out the tournament with three golfers in the top-six.

WHAT THEY'RE SAYING:

"The guys performed very well today on a difficult and demanding golf course," said head coach Jimmy Stobs, "The Bayonet is one of the toughest golf courses around and was set up today similar to what a US Open would be. Winning this event was a good way to end the semester. Now we will use the off-season to improve and get better before picking things back up in the spring."

"I walked with Felipe the entire tournament and he was able to capture his best collegiate finish," said assistant coach Ryan Hand, "He also had the lowest round of the tournament. The team has a lot of good things to take from this event and the fact that this is our third win in a row."

SUMMARY:

  • AJ Ewart ended his tournament on a high-note with an eagle on the 18th hole to finish the Invitational in 5th place at -1.
  • Tyler Bakich finished right behind AJ, holding sixth place at even par.
