Buccaneers Visit Fighting Knights on Wednesday

MIAMI SHORES, Fla.—The Barry Buccaneers travel up to Boca Raton, Fla., to take on their arch-rivals, the Lynn Fighting Knights, in Sunshine State Conference basketball action on Wednesday, Jan. 23. The women tip at 5:30 pm, followed by the men at 7:30 pm.

Women's Basketball - Wednesday, Jan 23; 5:30 pm; de Hoernle Center

The Buccaneer women (6-10, 4-5 SSC) are coming off a 60-55 road win at Saint Leo on Saturday. Juhnae Richardson came off the bench to lead the team with 17 points. Ida Andersson had 10 points and Nichel Tampa added 13 points and five steals. 

Andersson and Tampa continue to be the one-two punch for the Bucs. Anderson leads the team with 14.9 points and 7.1 rebounds per game, while Tampa chips in 14.6 points, 5.1 rebounds, 3.6 assists and 2.4 steals. Harriet Swindells adds 10.9 points per game. 

The Knights (11-4, 5-4 SSC) dropped their second game in a row to Tampa on Saturday, falling to the Spartans by 20, 63-43. Kelsi Fizer with 11 points and Jaylen Snipes with 10 where the only Knights in double figures.  

The Knights do not have any players averaging double figures. Sopomore forward Uloma Enyogasi leads the team with 9.6 points per game. Fizer and Snipes both chip in 8.7. 

GAME NOTES:

  • Barry leads the all-time series 32-20 and have won eight of the last 10
  • Last season, Barry took both meetings for the second time in three years. The Bucs won 66-56 in Miami Shores and 58-52 in Boca Raton.

Men's Basketball - Wednesday, Jan 23; 7:30 pm; de Hoernle Center

The Barry men (10-6, 5-4 SSC) lost three straight games for just the second time under coach Butch Estes. The Bucs dropped an 82-77 heartbreaker to Saint Leo on Saturday. Isaiah Hobbs came off the bench for 21 points and nine rebounds to pace the Bucs. Tylan Birts added 15 points and David Moya had 10. 

Daniel Mortensen leads the team with 14.3 points per game and is shooting 44.4 percent from three-point range. Birts chips in 11.1 and a team-best 5.9 rebounds. Moya's 3.8 assists per game tops the squad.

The Knights (14-2, 7-2 SSC) are ranked 17th in both national polls. They narrowly nipped the Tampa Spartans 85-81 on Saturday. Jamal Palmer had a team-high 24 points, while Rasheed Worrell tallied his second double-double of the season with 10 rebounds and 11 points.

Four Knights are averaging in double figures, led by Palmer at 15.6 points per game. Michael Baez adds 15. 3 points, Brandon Bornelus chips in 14.3 and Darius Moore provides 13.4.
